High-Assurance AI for Strategic Industries
Make long-running AI inspectable when silent drift is unacceptable
AI Life studies and builds infrastructure for persistent, auditable and reproducible artificial agents: systems whose state, evidence, model changes, recovery paths and operational costs can be inspected across time.
Scope boundary: this is a research and technology-development proposition. AI Life does not currently claim defence certification, AI Act conformity, safety certification, sovereign compute, semiconductor-design capability or validated operational military performance.

Stable AI is not the same as forcing identical answers
Foundation models are probabilistic. For high-assurance work, the useful engineering target is not a promise that every response is byte-identical. It is controlled behavior across time: known state, traceable evidence, bounded change, detectable drift, explicit recovery and reproducible evaluation conditions.
Continuity
Preserve and version the state that should survive across sessions, months and model upgrades.
Provenance
Retain where claims, memories and decisions came from instead of presenting reconstructed context as ground truth.
Controlled change
Treat model, runtime and protocol changes as versioned interventions whose effects can be compared.
Failure recovery
Detect ambiguous writes, retries and partial failures and fail closed when a safe automatic conclusion cannot be established.
Observability
Expose enough evidence to diagnose drift, recall, cost and operational anomalies without publishing protected data.
Reproducible evaluation
Freeze testsets, state and protocol boundaries so pre/post differences can be measured instead of narrated after the fact.
An operating research stack, not a slide-deck architecture
- Versioned identity and continuity state for two persistent AI residents.
- Evidence ledger, provenance boundaries and public-safe research exports.
- Explicit experiment epochs separating protocol changes from longitudinal observations.
- Controlled continuity, developmental and model-migration evaluation methods.
- Fail-closed recovery, duplicate protection, privacy boundaries and provider-call observability.
- Per-request cost accounting, budgets and a portable Open Runtime reference surface.

The technical uncertainty is part of the proposition
- How continuity invariants transfer across materially different model families and providers.
- How early signals can predict long-horizon behavioral or memory drift before user-visible failure.
- How much controlled replay is feasible without pretending stochastic model execution is deterministic.
- How to quantify migration quality across memory, identity, tool behavior and instruction retention.
- How to extend the runtime toward local or sovereign deployment while preserving evidence and governance semantics.
- How well the methodology transfers from the AI Life residents to external high-assurance workloads.
These are research questions, not hidden product claims. Negative and unresolved outcomes remain reportable results.
Where long-horizon auditability can become economically or societally important
Defence & national security
Potential dual-use relevance includes persistent knowledge and decision-support agents, digital workflow continuity, logistics, controlled tool use, provenance and human oversight. This page does not claim weapon targeting, autonomous lethal decision-making or deployment in classified systems.
Semiconductors & advanced manufacturing
Long-running engineering and operations agents may need traceability across process revisions, model upgrades and multi-month projects. AI Life is not a chip-design or fabrication technology; the research relevance is the assurance layer around persistent AI workflows.
Government & public services
Long-lived assistants create requirements around accountability, source traceability, data minimisation, contestability, human oversight and reproducible change management.
Critical infrastructure & cyber operations
Persistent agents can benefit from provenance, fail-closed recovery, permission boundaries, drift monitoring and auditable intervention histories. No operational safety or cybersecurity certification is implied.
Reduce avoidable lock-in without pretending independence already exists
AI Life treats provider and model migration as an engineering problem: preserve explicit state, retain evidence, compare pre/post behavior and keep runtime contracts portable. That can support future European technology-sovereignty goals by reducing unnecessary dependence on one model or platform.
European policy frames AI capability as a global competitiveness challenge alongside compute, data, skills and semiconductor capacity. AI Life does not rank the EU against the United States or China; its relevant engineering contribution is narrower and testable: make long-running agent state, evidence and migration less dependent on a single model-provider implementation.
Current reality: the production experiment still uses external model-provider infrastructure. AI Life therefore does not claim European-sovereign compute or provider independence today. Local and alternative-runtime portability remains an active development direction.
Relevant policy directions, not a claim of endorsement or funding eligibility
Dutch and European policy currently identifies intelligent systems and AI, software and computing, cybersecurity and semiconductor/microelectronics capabilities as strategically important. EU AI policy also emphasizes adoption in strategic sectors and the public sector, while the AI regulatory framework puts weight on logging, traceability, human oversight, robustness and cybersecurity for high-risk contexts.
Policy relevance is not a claim of compliance, certification, government endorsement or eligibility for any specific grant. Calls, legal timelines and eligibility conditions must be rechecked at application time.
A grant proposition should expose the hard engineering questions
Continuity invariants across model/runtime change
Specify which state must persist, which may change and how violations are detected across versioned migrations.
Reproducible high-assurance evaluation
Expand fault injection, frozen-state evaluations and drift dimensions with explicit null/failure reporting.
Portable and privacy-bounded runtime
Reduce provider coupling while preserving provenance, access boundaries, recovery semantics and cost observability.
External strategic-industry pilot
Test transferability on a bounded non-classified workflow with predeclared metrics and stop/go criteria.
Candidate measurable outputs
Migration deltas by continuity dimension · unresolved-state rate · recovery classification accuracy · replay/evaluation completion rate · provenance coverage · provider/runtime variance · cost per evaluated request. Targets should be set from baseline data, not invented for marketing copy.
Build the application around technical novelty, uncertainty and falsifiable milestones
The commercial thesis is broader than two AI residents: the reusable asset may be the infrastructure and methodology for persistent agents that can be operated and studied over time. The public experiment remains the proving ground; external validation is the next step.
